CALM & PUNK GALLERY is pleased to announce “Traces II,” a solo exhibition by Minori Oga from May 10 to June 2, 2024. This exhibition will include new paintings and drawings, as well as a big tableau from the “Traces” exhibition displayed at CALM & PUNK GALLERY’s sister facility, GASBON METABOLISM (Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture) in July 2023. In her new work, Oga traces her process of creating two-dimensional works.

Time, temperature, and fragrance breathe in a surface with confined dimensions. The work focuses on small scales that individuals may not perceive and fixes them in place. The beauty of Oga’s paintings stems from their peaceful and startling painted surfaces. However, it feels like also hidden fiction deep within them.
Unlike her other works in lacquer, these paintings are done without any pre-arrangements. The painted components are in close proximity to one another, making a harmonious whole, while organic and various materials and elements are interconnected. The traces that appear are the points at which the process comes to a standstill, and where the artist seeks an expression that is not constrained by the limitations of existing media.

She explores expression while having a certain feeling for the support material, the canvas. This will be Oga Minori’s largest-scale solo exhibition, following five years of intensive painting and three years of displaying her works. We hope you will take this opportunity to see the show.
