CALM & PUNK GALLERY is pleased to present “Watashi wa mita,” a solo exhibition by SONY SUZUKI, running from Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Centered around the portrait series “Watashi wa mita,” which explores the very act of seeing through paintings of people, the exhibition unfolds through a multilayered installation to depict a contemporary myth of a “Future That Has Not Been Broken.”

At the heart of the exhibition is the new portrait series “Watashi wa mita.” The people depicted in these paintings are those who have seen—or perhaps happened to see—“something.” What they saw is never revealed. We do not know whether it was reality, a hallucination, or perhaps even the future. The only thing they have in common is that each of them bears witness: “I saw it.”

Each portrait represents a single witness. Yet, as multiple works come together within the exhibition space, they transform into a crowd. We may feel that we are looking at this crowd, but at the same time, we find ourselves being watched back by them all at once. What emerges is a circulation of gazes.

The roles of “the one who sees” and “the one who is seen” continually shift, making it impossible for the viewer to remain a detached observer. At this point, the exhibition becomes more than a collection of portraits—it becomes a kind of “apparatus” that draws the viewer into this cycle of looking and being looked at.

The exhibition will also feature a selection of original goods, including apparel, figures, and books, allowing visitors to take a piece of SONY SUZUKI’s world home with them.
