At CALM & PUNK GALLERY, we are pleased to present I don’t care what you think about it, a solo exhibition by Malaysia-born artist Kamwei Fong, held at CALM & PUNK GALLERY in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo, from December 12 (Fri) to December 21 (Sun), 2025.
Kamwei Fong is known for his exquisite monochrome line works, created using only black micro-pigment ink, in which he depicts cats and other animals with extraordinary delicacy and detail. Rendered in soft gradations of black, his creatures carry a quiet presence while emanating a rich sense of emotion and intent. Their unrestrained, free-spirited posture reminds us humans of the importance of living true to ourselves. Loved by cat enthusiasts and art audiences around the world, Fong’s practice balances charming visual appeal with a profound sense of respect for the animals he portrays.
The exhibition will focus on Kamwei Fong’s iconic The Furry Thing series, featuring his characterful, fluffy cats, alongside other free-spirited animals that embody his distinctive artistic vision. Rendered entirely with countless fine lines, the soft fur of his subjects appears remarkably precise up close, conveying a sense of breath and presence that brings the animals vividly to life.
This show, presenting the largest number of works by Fong ever exhibited in Japan, offers a unique opportunity to experience his long-standing exploration of line as a means to evoke texture and atmosphere, as well as to witness the unrestrained, playful spirit of the animals he portrays – up close and in person.
