The feeling of living within a faint vestige.
One is present in an opaque world, whereby its outline is obscured and happenings due to occur are unclear. One has to keep moving even when what is front or back remains ambiguous. However, this is not a bleak situation. Unexpectedly, I find it amusing.
-SHINKNOWNSUKE

CALM & PUNK GALLERY is pleased to announce the opening of SHINKNOWNSUKE’s solo exhibition, “Dimly”, starting from the 11th (Fri) to the 26th (Sun) of November.
SHINKNOWNSUKE is a graphic designer and artist who is active both locally and internationally. His solo exhibition, “DIVINITIES”, held in Los Angeles, CA, US marked the first definition of his career as an artist. To this point, he has provided graphic designs for Tokyo’s leading select shops, such as MIN-NANO, SUPPLY, BEND, and a wide range of other brands. His diverse practice includes collaborations with overseas brands and vigorous involvements in multiple collective units, all of which have garnered his practice much attention.
The characters in his work are the result of an exploration of the figurative. Born through the overlapping of objects, these characters result in unique and non-sensible forms, becoming perfect vessels to hold meanings and narrate stories. The motifs of his works, which are inspired by forms, blur the lines of shape formulations, lending to the clarity of their backgrounds and story-telling abilities.
Despite the uncertainties brought about by others, society, and the future in the everyday, these motifs, which flow throughout the canvas, accompany us in the enjoyment that comes with the scrambling process of life. Although Dimly, they nevertheless propose a fun exploration and adventure, do they not? This exhibition showcases SHINKNOWNSUKE’s first ever large-scale canvas artwork and we are pleased to invite you to view a new facet of his practice.
